THE THICK OF IT To Help Support Oil Spill Relief Efforts
THE THICK OF IT will donate proceeds of their song “Riverbed” from their upcoming debut album “First Day Of Death” (digital release July 19, 2010) to the following organizations aiding in the BP Gulf Oil Spill relief efforts:
The oil spill devastating the U.S. coastline has created major disruption in the lives of people in the Gulf Coast areas, even as they still struggle to recover from the 2005 hurricanes. The United Way Gulf Recovery Fund will provide emergency assistance, such as help with food, rent and utilities, and support long-term recovery efforts to rebuild lives devastated by the disaster by addressing educational, financial and health-related challenges.
“IBRRC In Action: Saving Oiled Wildlife in the Gulf”
IBRRC is working with Tri-State Bird Rescue, the lead oiled wildlife organization on the ground, to set up and staff rehabilitation centers in Louisiana, Alabama Mississippi and Florida, where the growing oil slick is expected to impact birds. IBRRC provides training and consultation to the petroleum industry, local, state, and U.S. Federal Fish and Wildlife agencies, wildlife rehabilitators and researchers.”
“The oil spill resulting from the sinking of BP Transocean Deep Water Horizon oil rig is a major concern for the entire Gulf Coast area. At this time, there are still many unknowns about the type of impact this oil will have on our coastline and the situation is ongoing. Current projections show the oil will impact state waters east of the Mississippi River, which is 23% of the state’s total seafood harvest.”
